In 1882, the paper discontinued the evening edition and became the Albuquerque Morning Journal. Journal Publishing Company took over and published the Albuquerque Daily Journal, an evening paper. The Journal was founded in 1880 after the owner of its predecessor, The Golden Gate, died.
